DARKROOM
Welcome to our community darkroom — a shared space dedicated to analogue photography, learning, and collaboration. The darkroom is equipped with 13 enlargers supporting 35mm, medium format, 4×5”, and 8×10” work, alongside a film processing area and a small but growing reference library.
The space itself has been built almost entirely from reclaimed and recycled materials, reflecting our commitment to sustainability. The majority of the equipment has been generously donated or rescued from other darkrooms that have sadly closed, allowing these resources to continue serving photographers and artists within the community.
We are developing an exciting programme of workshops covering a range of analogue processes and skill levels. These will sit alongside designated open access days, where those with prior darkroom experience can work independently in a supported environment.
We’ve recently appointed a small team of volunteer technicians who will oversee the darkroom on Thursdays, our regular open access day. To use the darkroom during these sessions, users will need to become members — further details can be found below.
This darkroom is very much a work in progress. Our aim is to grow the resource over time, expand our workshop programme, and introduce additional open access days. We warmly invite you to join us, contribute your skills and enthusiasm, and help shape the future of this shared space.
The darkroom expansion and launch has been supported by Devon County Council’s Growing Communities Fund and Exeter City Council’s City Grant Programme.
